1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Chime mobile application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and SLJ Labs Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom, operating the Chime application. You must be at least 13 years old to use Chime.

2. Description of Service

Chime is a comprehensive alarm and productivity application that provides reliable alarms with social coordination features, helping you stay on schedule with friends and family.

  • Reliable Alarms: Set multiple alarms with custom sounds and labels
  • Group Features: Share alarms with friends and family
  • Individual Timing: Customize alarm times for each group member
  • Cross-Device Sync: Your alarms sync across all your iOS devices
  • Timer & Stopwatch: Built-in productivity tools
  • Smart Challenges: Step counter and other dismissal challenges
  • Calendar Integration: Add your alarms to your calendar

3. User Accounts and Registration

Account Creation Options

You can use Chime in different ways:

  • Anonymous Usage: Basic alarm functionality without creating an account
  • Apple Sign-In: Secure authentication using your Apple ID
  • Google Sign-In: Authentication using your Google account
  • Email/Password: Traditional account creation with email verification

Your Responsibilities

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information during registration
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials and authentication tokens
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access or security breaches
  • Be responsible for all activities that occur under your account
  • Keep your contact information current for important account notifications
  • Use strong passwords and enable additional security measures when available

Account Linking and Data Migration

If you start using Chime anonymously and later create an account, we will migrate your existing alarms and settings to your new authenticated account while maintaining your privacy preferences.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

Subscription Options

Chime offers both free and paid subscription tiers:

  • Free Tier: Always available with core features
  • Paid Tiers: Optional premium subscriptions for advanced features

Specific features and pricing for each tier are displayed in the app and may vary by region.

Payment Terms

  • Payment Processing: All payments are processed through the Apple App Store in accordance with Apple's terms and conditions. Where permitted by applicable law and platform policies, we may also use third-party payment processors (currently RevenueCat) to manage subscriptions and payment processing.
  • Billing: Subscription fees are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annually)
  • Taxes: All applicable taxes (including VAT where applicable) are included in displayed prices
  • Auto-Renewal: Paid subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Free Tier: The free tier will always remain available at no cost
  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your device's account settings
  • Refunds: Refund policies are subject to the terms of the platform through which you purchased (Apple App Store terms apply)

5. Advertising

Free tier users will see advertisements served by Google AdMob. By using the free tier:

  • You consent to the display of third-party advertisements
  • Limited device information may be shared with AdMob for ad serving
  • You can opt-out of personalised ads in iOS Settings
  • Upgrade to Premium or Specialist for an ad-free experience

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Share inappropriate or offensive content
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Interfere with the App's functionality

7. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Analytics and Data Collection

  • UK GDPR Compliance: Full compliance with UK data protection laws
  • Consent-Based Analytics: PostHog analytics require explicit opt-in
  • Data Minimisation: We only collect necessary data
  • Your Rights: Access, rectify, erase, port, and object to processing

Data Deletion and Account Management

You have complete control over your data, including:

  • Right to export all your data in multiple formats (JSON, CSV, ZIP)
  • Right to delete your account and all associated data
  • Right to configure data retention periods (7 days to 1 year)
  • Right to control analytics participation and session recording

8. Intellectual Property

Our Property

The Chime app and its content, features, and functionality are owned by SLJ Labs Limited and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the App without our written permission.

Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create (alarm names, group names, timer labels, etc.). By using Chime, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use this content solely to provide the Service to you and other group members where applicable.

9. User Content and Conduct

Your Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for any content you create, share, or transmit through Chime. You represent and warrant that:

  • You own or have the right to use any content you share
  • Your content does not infringe any third-party rights
  • Your content is not illegal, offensive, or harmful
  • You will not use Chime to harass or harm others

Content Moderation

We reserve the right to:

  • Remove or refuse to display content that violates these Terms
  • Suspend or terminate accounts that violate content policies
  • Report illegal content to appropriate authorities
  • Take action to protect the safety of our users

Copyright Complaints

If you believe content on Chime infringes your copyright, please contact us at support@chimealarm.app with details of the alleged infringement.

10. App Performance and Features

Software Nature

You acknowledge that:

  • The App may contain bugs, errors, or issues that could affect functionality
  • We continuously work to improve stability and performance
  • Features may be added, modified, or removed in updates
  • App performance may vary based on device, iOS version, and settings
  • Your feedback helps us identify and fix issues

Beta Features

Some features may be released in beta:

  • Beta features are clearly marked in the app
  • These features may be less stable or change significantly
  • Enhanced analytics may be collected (with consent) for beta features
  • Participation in beta testing is optional

iOS Compatibility

Chime requires iOS 15.0 or later. Some features may require newer iOS versions or specific device capabilities. The app automatically adapts to provide the best experience for your device.

11. Disclaimers and Limitations

  • Chime is not a medical device or emergency service
  • We cannot guarantee 100% alarm reliability
  • Always maintain backup alarms for critical appointments
  • Device settings and iOS restrictions may affect functionality

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY UK LAW, SLJ LABS LIMITED SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS OR £100, WHICHEVER IS LESS.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE OR FRAUD.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SLJ Labs Limited, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use or misuse of the Chime app
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Any content you create, share, or transmit through Chime
  • Your violation of any applicable laws or regulations

This indemnification obligation will survive the termination of these Terms and your use of Chime.

13. Termination

Termination by Us

We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the App at our sole discretion, without prior notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms. In such cases, we will provide you with information about data export options where legally possible.

Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time through the app's Privacy Settings. When you delete your account:

  • All personal data will be deleted within 30 days (UK GDPR compliance)
  • You will be removed from all shared groups
  • Analytics data will be deleted from PostHog
  • Authentication tokens will be revoked
  • Local device data will be cleared
  • CloudKit personal data will be removed

Before deletion, you can export your data in multiple formats for your records.

14. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes through the App or via email. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you reside.
